# Partial hospitalization program

Partial hospitalization does not necessarily mean staying in a hospital. A PHP, sometimes called day treatment, is positioned between residential and traditional outpatient care.

## How day treatment works

Participants live at home but may attend sessions five or six days per week for several hours at a time. The schedule provides more structure than a standard outpatient program without continuous residential supervision.

## Who may be appropriate

PHP may be considered after detoxification, as a step down from residential treatment, or when residential treatment is not feasible. Because participants return home, a stable environment and supportive network are important.

## Program expectations

- Consistent attendance and participation
- Individual and group counseling
- Medication management when clinically appropriate
- Development of coping and relapse-prevention skills
- Accountability to program policies
